Winter Nadam Festival Opens in Inner Mongolia
-

The first winter version of the enormously popular entertainment and games festival, Nadam, opened Saturday in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

Nadam has a tradition of more than 700 years. During the event, local residents participate in three major activities^This time, the festival that used to be held throughout the grasslands in the summer or autumn took place on the snow-covered grassland of Ewenki, in the Hulun Buir League.

According to a local official, the strength of Mongolian people is as easily demonstrated in snow and ice as in seasons when flowers are in bloom and the grass is green.

Tourists joined the festival with local herdsmen, braving temperatures as low as minus-20 degrees centigrade.

New on the schedule of events this year are skiing, camel-drawn sleigh racing, and motorcycle racing.

Boasting primitive forests, vast grasslands and fresh lakes, the Hulun Buir League has set a goal to develop the eco-friendly tourism attractions.
