China's Tibet Autonomous Region has a population of 2.44 million, of whom more than 2.3 million are people of the Tibetan nationality, making up 95 percent of the region's total.

　　According to statistics, over 130,000 compatriots from Tibet live outside Chinese territory. They are scattered over nearly 30 countries, mainly in India, Bhutan and Nepal, with some in the United States, Switzerland, Canada, Germany and Italy.

　　Since 1979, many overseas Tibetan compatriots have returned to China one after another to visit their family members, engage in sightseeing, pay religious homage or settle down. The Chinese government has shown great concern for the life and work of returned Tibetan compatriots .Thanks to the government's assistance, their life and work conditions are well arranged; they are living and working in peace and contentment.
