Religions in Shannan

ĦĦĦĦAs in other areas in Tibet, the great majority of people in Shannan adhere to the tenets of Lamaistic Buddhism. Religious beliefs are fully respected and normal religious activities are protected by the Constitution of the People's Republic of China and by various laws at the State and Autonomous Region level. People fully enjoy the freedom of religious belief. Shannan has 251 monasteries, temples and other religious activity places, which have basically met the needs of the population. To ensure there are sufficient places for common religious believers to conduct normal religious activities and for the clergy to engage in legal religious activities, the State has invested 16.16 million yuan in repairing monasteries and protecting cultural relics. Those ruined during the Cultural Revolution have basically been recovered and repaired.
