Origin of the festival can be traced back to 900 years ago and is celebrated once every 12 years. It was a pure scripture-reciting ritual in its early days. As time goes by, trade fair and performances are added into it. Besides religious activities, the session also offer entertainments such as horse-racing, yak-racing, tug-of-war, stone-lifting and folk culture performances. This festival is a big-scale activity highly stressed by Nagqu Prefecture. 100,000 visitors joined the festival, and contracts worth of 2 million yuan were signed.
