Tenzin is a Tibetan singer in Tibet Song and Dance Ensemble Troupe, who has appeared on TV for many occasions. Recently he has been invited to China Railway Culture Troupe as an honored performer.
Tenzin was born in a farmer's family in Bainang county, Xigaze prefecture. He has four brothers and he is the forth one. He said when he was young, his family was very poor, but his parents insisted on giving him education for the sake of bright future. Fortunately, he went to high school free of education fee and then he entered Tibet Normal University (which is the predecessor of Tibet University), and by his hard study, he enrolled into Art Department. At that time, he began to learn how to play accordion and got in touch with music.
Then in 1981, he passed the music examination and enrolled into Shanghai Conservatory of Music. As he said, from that moment, his music career really began. In Shanghai Conservatory of Music, there were a lot of students from other parts of China, Tenzin found his shortcomings and studied very hard. Upon his graduation, he went to Tibet Song and Dance Ensemble Troupe and became a professional singer.
He said after 1984, he took part in various singing contests to train himself. He won the highest prize of "JinFeng Cup" (literally meaning Golden Phenix Cup) in the National Minority Folk Song Contest in 1985. He won the Screen Award two times in the professional folk singing group of National Young Singer TV Contest in 1986 and 1988. And in 1990, he won the prize of "Excellent Singer" also in the National Young Singer TV Contest. In 1987 and 1990, he won some special prizes under the level of Tibetan region. He also won a lot of other prizes in the contests taken place in other provinces or regions of China. In 1998, he won the award of "Qumolangma", which is the highest award within Tibetan art circle.
Tenzin said he cherished every opportunity he got, and did his utmost to redound upon the foster of the society and the people.
