Letter of Congratulation from Vice-chairman
of the International Folk Art Organization of UNESCO
Tibet
Autonomous Region Song and Dance Troupe successfully visited the
former Soviet Union, the United States, Germany and many other countries.
Before it is about to visit Canada, we are very lucky to meet the
troupe and appreciate its brilliant performances in Belgium. Whenever
we talk about Tibet, we cannot help thinking of its rich cultural
heritage and its customs and traditions full of vitality. There
would be no development without traditions, and there would be no
future without culture. Therefore, in the 21st century we will have
prospects for more prosperity. Folk traditions and art promote understanding
among the various ethnic groups. Folk culture has advanced with
the times in the process of its development for many years.
A folk culture which cannot be conducive to mutual understanding
is like a dry river. Therefore, the method of exchange like China
Tibetan Culture Week is of vital importance to exchanging ideas
and promoting world peace. It is unnecessary to interpret the bridge
of friendship erected with music and dance. We can discover common
values from folk traditions and art. These values are shared by
all the people in the world.
Here, I, on behalf of the International Folk Art Organization
of UNESCO, sincerely wish that Tibet Autonomous Region Song and
Dance Troupe will have a pleasant stay in Belgium. I hope that the
cultural exchanges between China and Belgium will further develop.
