Tibetan
Culture Extravaganza Arrives in Australia CRI An exploration
of Tibetan art, culture and life arrives in Australia, to begin a world tour.
After moving on from Melbourne, the China Tibetan Culture Week opened in Sydney,
Tuesday. As CRI¡¯s Australia Correspondent Yang Binyuan reports, the Tibetan culture
extravaganza, which includes impressive photographic works, tapestries and films,
is China¡¯s first all-round exposition to the world on Tibet. The China
Tibetan Culture Week, presented by the China International Culture Association,
aims to raise awareness about life in Tibet. Australia and New Zealand
are the first stops on a worldwide tour of an exhibition that took several years
to compile. Li Gang, head of the China Tibetan Culture Week delegation, says the
culture week aims to introduce the real Tibet to people in Australia and New Zealand.
Li Gang says for years, the Dalai Lama spread many rumors about Tibet, which
resulting in great misperceptions among people living abroad. He hopes people
in Australia and New Zealand will gain a better understanding of Tibet through
the China Tibetan Culture Week. The exhibition comprises three parts: photos
and tapestries; TV documentaries and feature films; and Tibetan performances.
More than 600 photos from various parts of Tibet including its countryside, mountains,
people, music, religion and industry are on display. There are also 80 ancient
Tibetan tapestries. Kevin Gosper, Vice President of the International Olympic
Committee is Patron of the Tibetan Culture Week in Melbourne. He is impressed
with the exhibition, It¡¯s a spectacular exhibition. It¡¯s a first for Melbourne
to have such a beautiful exhibition, a good opportunity to look at many works
of art and, of course, learning a great deal about a part of the world they didn¡¯t
know very much about. That¡¯s what is important about this visit. The China
Tibetan Culture Week¡¯s producer in Sydney, Patrick Condon says the exhibition
is timely as he believes the 21st century is going to be China¡¯s century, ¡°The
significance of the exhibit is people will understand more about Tibet, which
has always been a mystery, a very hidden country in their perception. It's
a country that¡¯s obviously got wonderful grand scenery, amazingly deep and old
culture, and great beauty of the warm people. The more this type of exhibitions
are done, the more not only people in Australia but the world will understand
the real depth and quality of China.¡± The China Tibetan Culture Week will
move to Auckland, New Zealand next Monday. |
