Message
from HE Wu Tao,

October29,
2001
It is my great pleasure to extend my warmest greetings to the artists
and officials from China's Tibet Autonomous Region - the Roof of the World - Visiting
Australia for the event of the Tibetan Culture Week.
As a great family
of nationalities, China comprises 56 ethnic groups who live harmoniously in brotherliness
of equality, mutual help and common prosperity under the unified leadership of
the Central Government of the People's Republic of China. The industrious and
ingenious Tibetan people, among these ethnic groups, have created their splendid
Tibetan culture in the process of historical development and made remarkable contributions
to enriching the traditional cultural treasury and to safeguarding the integrity
of the Chinese nation.
Since is peaceful liberation in 1951, especially
since the Democratic Reform, tremendous changes of historic significance have
taken place in Tibet, where rapid developments have been achieved in economy,
culture, education, science and technology. The Chinese Government has always
attached great importance to the preservation and development of the cultural
heritage of Tibet and remarkable success has been attained in prospering Tibetan
culture and arts.
The China Tibetan Cultural Week will not only present
the graceful arts and unadorned folkways of Tibet to Australian audiences, but
also convey the warm regards of the Chinese people to the Friendly people of Australia.
I am sure this event will play an important role in further promoting the understanding
and friendship between our two countries. Here, I would like to extend my heartfelt
thanks to the Australia-Asia Culture & Arts Centre of Melbourne, Condon Entertainment
Ltd of Sydney and Seven Network for their efforts in arranging and supporting
the tour of the China Tibetan Culture Week to Australia.
I sincerely wish
the China Tibetan Culture Week a complete success.
Wu Tao
Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Australia
