It gives me grat pleasure to support the Tibet in Melbourne 2001 exhibition, which I believe will be the most comprehensive collection of Tibetan Culture ever seen outside The People's Republic of China.

As the Lord Mayor of Melbourne I am proud that Australia and indeed the City of Melbourne has always embraced cultural diversity and welcomed the richness that it bring to peoples lives.

Tibet in Melbourne 2001 will give Australians a deeper insight into Tibet's unique culture and also foster our cultural relations between Australia and China.

Melbourne is internationally recognised as a vibrant multicultural city with a strong arts focus and I have no doubt that the exhibition will be a huge success.
