The roof of the World--A Pure Land

Tibet,covered by ancient oceans in aeons past, emerged as a landform over 40 million years age,when the Indian Plate and Eurasian Plate collided, The qinghai-Tibet Plateau, from millions of years ago in the Quaternary Period to now ,has been rising by an annual average of one cm. Drastic geological changes contributed to the region's geographical differences, diversified species and colorful cultures. Enviromnental protection has become one of China's most important state policies, hundreds of nature reserves at national, regional, prefectural, county and township levels, greatly benefiting the natural environment. Meanwhile, Tibetan folk culture has also been given due attention. With this advantage, the regional government has mapped out plans and policies to boost the special local economy with tourism as the leading industry.
